No. 01 Cleaning
Home cleaning
Soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap for fifteen minutes. Soft-brush the underside of the stone, where most grime collects. Rinse, air-dry.
Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for any stone with treatments (emeralds, opals, pearls, turquoise).
No. 02 Storage
Daily wear and storage
- Remove before lifting, rock-climbing, boxing, or gardening.
- Put jewelry on last, after hand cream, perfume, and sunscreen.
- Take rings off before swimming in chlorine or the sea.
- Store pieces separately in the original pouch to prevent scratching.
No. 03 Metal notes
By metal type
- Platinum develops a soft matte patina with wear. We re-polish it once a year for free.
- 14k and 18k yellow gold do not tarnish. 18k is softer; remove before heavy tasks.
- White gold is rhodium-plated. The plating will wear over time. Re-plating every 18 to 24 months keeps it bright.
- Rose gold hardens with age. It does not need re-plating, but avoid ammonia.
No. 04 Inspection
Annual professional service
Bring your piece in, or mail it insured, once a year. We check the prongs, re-tighten stones, and polish as needed.
The first annual check on an engagement ring is free. Subsequent checks are $45, quoted in writing before work starts.
No. 05 Warranty
What is covered
Luxe Gems warrants its craftsmanship for the life of the piece against defects in manufacturing. Normal wear, damage, and loss are not covered. We recommend insuring valuable pieces through Jewelers Mutual.
